Luxe Lounge

Luxe Lounge

Luxe Lounge by roguevintage featuring a modern tufted ottoman

I was recently contacted by Chairish and asked to create a styleboard around one of their current colorful rugs.  They have an amazing selection of vintage rugs to help define areas, add texture, or in this case provide a big pop of color.  Since I have been dubbed "Colorgirl" by a long time friend, I certainly felt I was up for the challenge.

My favorite of all the rugs was a great Missoni octagonal rug with vibrant pinks and purples.  From there I added in a Milo Baughman leather lounger that I am DYING to have, a fab Sciolari chandelier, Jonathan Adler floor lamp, and velvet ottoman.  Then I was stuck.

Nothing was quite working out until I found this great chrome etagere.  If you follow us on Instagram you may remember that I ran across this exact one last summer.  What I didn't tell you was that it was $60.  Yes, you read that correctly....$60, $60, !!!$60!!!!  And, no I didn't buy it.  Because for some reason I was not in the mood to be bothered with hitching a trailer to my ride that day.  I mean, it was complicated...I was hours away, picking up my kids from Grandma's house, the car was full, it was 100 degrees, I had to get back to town for L Shape Lot at Airlie.  Yada, yada, freaking yada.  Yes, I kick myself to this day.  This is what is called buyers remorse in it's purest form.  Much like the brass antelope bookends styled on said etagere that I once passed up for $18 because I thought no one else would buy them and they would be reduced the next week.  Cause, you know- $18 is just too steep to pay for such a thing!?!

Do you see where this post is going?  Do you?  It is my badge of shame for shopping stupidity.  It is to serve as my reminder that in some cases it is absolutely OK to buy first and think later.  Especially since I now have put together the perfect room, down to the accessories.  In lieu of wearing a giant scarlet "DA" on my chest, I will just refer back to this post on occasion to remind me of how great my living room could look.  And how on some days, even though it is complicated, I should just hitch the damn trailer. Or even better- shop on Chairish where they ship (no hitching involved) and offer returns (for when your husband yells at you).  And definitely follow us on IG cause you never know what I will find.

The Danger of This Business

....you want EVERYTHING for yourself.  Sometimes I see things and know that they are good, but it doesn't quite hit me how good until I get them home.

I don't buy anything without picturing how someone will wear it or in the case of decor,  where it will fit into someone's house.  I guess subconsciously I really picture how everything will fit into my home.  I want these for my home VERY badly.

Just look at them in my liquor cabinet!

(No comments on how empty my liquor bottles are.  Hey, it is the end of the weekend!)

The colors are perfect if not in my cabinet then somewhere else in the house.  And I am SO not a ginger jar kind of girl.   The only problem is that I may have to off Jennings over a couple of stupid ceramic jars.  I know that she secretly wants them too!

Mid Century Gravel Art for Suckas

While finishing off my ritualistic Sunday night post Boardwalk Empire wine I decided to do a little web cruising and check out the vintage sale on One Kings Lane.  Less than five rows down I stopped, gagged, and spewed said wine on my husbands nautical knot boxer briefs (circa 1995) that are posing as tonight's PJ's.  $599 Retail?  $275 Our Price!?!  Somebody drank the Kool-Aid and actually bought these biotches.

Now I am not at all shocked that these were purchased.  They are FAB.  I know because I own this exact pair myself.  Gravel Art kits were all the rage in the 60s.  There is a great article on it HERE .  It will suffice to say that my pair did not cost anywhere close to the OKL price tag.  And this is where my panties get in a bunch and my wine gets spewed.  $275?  Truly, WTF?

I love One Kings Lane as much as the next home decor shopaholic.  I have even thought to myself, "We could sell our stuff on there... our stuff is that good".  But what bugs me is to see the exorbitant prices that are designed specifically to take advantage of the poorly educated "vintage" consumer.  The consumer who thinks that it is in vogue just because it is featured on OKL.  THAT is what bunches my panties.  THAT is what causes my wine to spew.

This pair costs nowhere in the realm of $275 and most certainly not in the galaxy of $599.  It leads the less experienced consumer to believe that all people selling "vintage" are trying to take advantage of the current trend.  My experience in this market, and I have a lot,  is quite the opposite.  Most reputable dealers are just trying to cover their costs and make a slight margin - not take you to the cleaners.

Now because I am a cosmic Karma kind of girl.  I am going to do those interested a proper favor.  Instead of bending over and grabbing your ankles on OKL, take a peek at the links below.  You're welcome.  I have never been much of a sadist but for those who thrive on the pain and humiliation I may just be coerced into giving you a whack or two for sh*ts and giggles.  Complimentary cocktail provided, appointments strongly recommended.

*Great deal on these.  They are more rare than the other versions and I would snap them right up myself if my husband had not already banned any future use of Asian inspired thingy's in the home.

Velvet Birds

And just to show we are not jumping on a trend bandwagon but are precursors to the trend, you could pop on over to Rogue Vintage and check out this little chicken.  He has sadly been in storage anxiously awaiting listing since his purchase in early August.

What can I say?  Busy summer turned busy fall.  Oh, and his sidekick will be listed next week.
